4 German Wines and a Wedding

August 31, 2009

Our wedding was Saturday night, and we celebrated with a short ceremony in the park, pedicabs, and lot of Germans and German wines! Dinner was SPECTACULAR at Park Kitchen, as we had their special tasting menu. Jack, our server and friend, kept bringing amazing dish after dish and the chefs paired the German wines perfectly with the food.

Back to the wedding: we wanted to create the wedding day of our dreams, and wanted every aspect of the day to reflect what we love in our lives. Our life coach, Kathleen, served as the officiant, and we had a short and emotional ceremony at Tanner Springs Park.

After the ceremony, we jumped in pedicabs and headed to the restaurant. We started with an appetizer hour, with a sparkling Riesling (believe it or not!). The Wachtenburg Winzer 2006 Extra Dry is crisp, lots of fruit, and perfect with salt cod fritters, pate, mushroom tartlets, and pickled vegetables. This was our favorite wine of the evening full of good wines.

The next two whites were served with the salads and light entrees- the 2007 Wachtenburg Winzer Grauburgunder (grey burgundy) and the 2007 Wachtenburg Winzer Chardonay. Who knew the Germans could produce a great sparkling and a Chardonnay? (Answer: Ewald Moseler!)

For our entrees and red wine we had a fourth Wachtenburg Winzer, a 2005 trocken Rotwein, containing 50% merlot, 15% Acolon, 18% Dornfelder, and 17% spatburgunder. A unique blend, perfect with the pork belly dish, as well as the salmon and two meat entrees.

Kir Jensen baked the cupcakes for the wedding, and we enjoyed her awesome dessert with the sparkling riesling. If you ever get the chance, track her down and make her make you a “Le Almond” cupcake.

We had a phenomenal day and evening, thanks to everyone who was present and who has supported us in our journey! We loved our whole day, and our friends and (singing) family made it great!

Wines:

The Wachtenburg Winzer wines are imported by Ewald Moseler, and can be found at various retailers around town, including at least Cork and Great Wine Buys.
