"Liar's Dice" Zinfandel was $36 cheaper than this gourmet pizza!
My favorite wine story for 2009 is clearly the Murphy-Goode marketing campaign, where Hardy Wallace (www.dirtysouthwine.com) proclaimed wine to be “crunk” and won the innovative contest. The “Liar’s Dice” has been a Murphy-Goode staple for years, and is very tasty.
The label says “sweet and juicy” so I expected an extracted California fruit bomb, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a rather dry and restrained wine with finesse. My dad, who has all but lost his sense of smell, even said it was “earthy”, and he totally nailed it.
Congratulations to Hardy Wallace and Murphy-Goode for the memorable Social Marketing campaign, if Murphy-Goode is smart they will keep Hardy on full-time as the only reason I tried the wine was because of his notoriety (told you I’m a sucker for hype). At $20, it’s a solid QPR wine.
The Wine:
2007 Murphy-Goode Sonoma County Zinfandel “Liar’s Dice”
Price: $20
QPR Rating: +5 (tastes like a $25 wine, but costs $20)
