Marc Chauvet Champagne Deserves A Sheepskin Rug
Okay, I was hooked when I read Jancis Robinson served Marc Chauvet Champagne NV at her daughter’s wedding as I’ve repeatedly exclaimed how I’m a sucker for hype but it’s the price ($39) that really caught my eye. By definition, few wines are “QPR” wines if priced over $30, but this truly is a great value.
From Jancis’s www.jancisrobinson.com:
“…the stuff tastes delicious. Not too sweet, not at all tart, nicely balanced, very brisk and appetising but with good length.”
Plus, in typical saucy Jancis style, she writes how good-looking the wine grower is:
“…the vines are grown by attractive-looking young Nicolas Chauvet, who is wedded to sustainable viticulture, and the wines are made by Clothilde Chauvet, proud of being a woman in what is usually a man’s job. Tick, tick!”
"He's Allright" According to Eva
I agree with Jancis’s assessment: very crisp, mostly citrus, no toast, refreshing with a full mouth feel. Seriously, the best champagne we’ve ever had, and for under $40, a great QPR.
