Marcel Lapierre and Wine Tastings in Portland, Oregon for Saturday, January 7, 2012

January 7, 2012

The Famous Marcel Lapierre

Hands down, the best tasting of the weekend belongs to our newest sponsor, E & R Wine Shop.  If you want to try legendary wines from legendary winemakers here is your chance-for free even!  The Morgon “Cote du Py” is one of my favorite bottles of wine ever (at least the 2009 was), and the notorious “Gang of Four” winemakers are about as cool as they come.  (Lookup the late Marcel Lapierre for a definition in coolness).  Liner and Elsen also has their very solid Saturday (also free) tastings today.

Cheers!

we will be pouring the recently arrived and rare 2010 (a terrific vintage!) cru beaujolais duet from jean foillard; morgon “cote du py” and morgon “cuvee corcelette”. only a few cases came in to oregon. we’ve met him there a few times in france and beside making great wine he is a good guy! we also are pouring a jura duo from jean-francois bourdy; the 2005 cotduo from jean-francois bourdy; the 2005 cotes du jura blanc; 100% savagnin and the 2006 cotes du jura rouge, a blend of poulsard, trousseau and pinot noir. some may recall bourdy was at e&r a few months back pouring wines from 1953, 1946 and 1934 among more recent stuff. team e&r visited him twice in the jura during 2011. his family have made wines essentially the same way for six hundred years, literally.

the bottle price total for the four wines is about $140. who needs bonus pours; the tasting is free. (jean foillard is second from the left with some of the gang of four past and present)
