Serious QPR Alert! 2008 Quattro Mani Tokai

June 13, 2010

In April 2009’s edition of Food & Wine Magazine, author Ray Isle described Slovenia’s Movia winemaker Ales Kristancic as the “Wine Genius of Dobrovo”, and the “current star of the Slovenian wine scene”.  The winery could be Slovenia’s first cult wine according to Isle: “Movia in particular, has a following that makes religious fanatics seem [...]

Wine Tastings, Portland, Oregon, June 10-12

June 9, 2010

I’ll admit it, I’m in the minority when I say I find wines from the wildly popular cult Cayuse Vineyards undrinkable. I tasted no fruit, and it did not even resemble wine to me. However, many of the cult wine aficionados will pay $200 a bottle on auction sites (Cayuse’s “Bionic Frog” is [...]

Pinot Noir-Egon Review, E & R Wine Shop

June 6, 2010

E & R Wine Shop hosted a monster three day Oregon Pinot Noir event in late April, with 90 wineries and 136 Pinot Noirs.  We attended two of the days, and tasted 54 wines.  Most (if not all) of the wineries were represented by the actual winemakers which was pretty cool.

Sparkling Riesling is common in the Pfalz region of southwest Germany.  Like cava in Spain or Prosecco in Italy, Sekt is the German word for sparkling wine that’s not champagne.  Sekt is usually a drier style sparkling wine, with crisp minerality typical of an authentic German Riesling.
Olympic Provisions serves the Wachtenburg Winzer 2007 Sekt, a [...]

Portland, Oregon Wine Tastings, May 20-23

May 21, 2010

Welcome to “spring” in Oregon, the weather changes every five minutes from rain to hail, followed by two minutes of sunshine, and back to rain again!  The website ecouterre.com, promotes “making your own raincoats” out of recycled materials, perfect for Portland’s recycling culture.  This weekend’s tasting is just like the mix of weather; eclectic, varied [...]

Owen Roe 2008 New Release Tasting

May 16, 2010

Owen Roe has been (and is) one of our favorite all-time wines.  The Rosa Mystica Cabernet Franc was the first American wine that Eva liked upon moving here from Germany, and we enjoyed visits to the old “nuthouse” for Thanksgiving tremendously.  So, I was very excited to receive an invitation to visit the facilities and [...]
